GREEN LIVING
Life is about choices, and when we pursue our goals, destiny comes within reach. Teachers find their way into the classroom, attorneys the courtroom, doctors the hospital, businessmen the corporate office, carpenters the construction site. . . . . If we want to savor the sweet success of attaining our hopes and dreams, we need a healthy planet for a platform. Smart daily choices get us to where we want to go—conversely, smart green living choices help keep the earth in shape for generations to come.
Green living takes many forms, and our green living tips can be easily adapted to your lifestyle. Finding ways to conserve energy and natural resources is one avenue to green living. Just caulking or weather stripping around exterior doors and windows to prevent heat loss is something anyone can do. Did you know that your TV and computer still use energy even when they are turned off? Try unplugging them when they’re not in use to conserve energy. Front load washers are the trend these days, but they actually use less energy to get clothes clean, so consider purchasing one whenever your current washer goes on the fritz (and remember to recycle your old one!).
Green living also means finding ways to reduce waste. For example, next time you need to replace your shower curtain, choose a fabric one over plastic. Switch to rechargeable batteries too, since one battery can replace up to 1,000 single use batteries. Or how about this green living tip—email party invitations to reduce waste, conserve resources, and save money. Websites are available that allow you to send invitations and track your guests’ RSVPs and any notes they might add to their reply. Plus, when guests click to respond to your invitation, they can see who else will be attending.
Green living also means making choices that reduce pollution. Carpooling, walking, or riding a bike to your destination conserves fuel and will keep you healthy too. Use digital cameras instead of the types that require film since hazardous chemicals are used for film processing. If you change your own car oil, be sure to recycle your used oil at a nearby oil collection site to avoid polluting our precious groundwater.
